Happy St.Pat's from Two Purring Cats!
It's St.Patrick's Day and being Scotch-Irish, it's my duty to celebrate, even if it is from home here at my desk. Living in Florida, I miss my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio and it's great parade that my friends and I used to go to every year. Things here in Florida aren't the same but there are celebrations around, which I may go check out later. Still, it isn't St. Patrick's Day without my buddy Linda Yee, who's up in Cleveland surely having a good time downtown. I'm there in spirit :)

A Cold Night in Florida
I love this weather, it's actually cold outside! Being from Ohio, I really appreciate cool weather now that it's not common down here in southwestern Florida. I get to pull out my sweaters and jackets from my closets and actually wear them! Life is good.
The poor strawberry farmers, though, don't appreciate the lower temps. They are worried about their crops, of course, as strawberries are in season and the last thing the farmers need are damaged produce. It's all over the news here, everyone has their fingers crossed that it won't frost here. The colder temps go more inland than Pinellas county, where I am. The farmers live inland mostly, and that is where it has a better chance of actually freezing. I went out to Plant City once, where they grow practially everything commercially. It is beautiful out there, just endless rows of produce growing for miles. There's a huge strawberry festival held out there every year that brings people from miles around. One of these years I'll actually go, it's kind of far from me but worth the trip, I hear from Floridian friends.
So, tonight I'm slacking off of working on artwork, after a day of working on this computer. I'm watching Ghost Hunters, an interesting show I never miss where they go into all kinds of old buildings and look for paranormal phenomenona. It's kind of funny to watch, especially when someone freaks out, sparking the rest of the crew to do the same at times. Better them than me. When I was in Mexico, I remember there were strong beliefs in the paranormal there. I saw a lady bless a newly opened store with a fluttering chicken (which was unhurt just waved around) and smoky burning stuff. I know nothing about all of this but it was interesting to watch, they said they were trying to ward off bad spirits or luck by doing that. It's interesting to observe.
My cat Beau is sleeping on my ankles. Being a southern cat, he gets cold easier than Fluffy and I do (we're both from Cleveland). Whenever it's cold, I can guarantee Beau is going to wedge his cute self up against me to keep "warm", even if the temperatures in here are totally perfect, it's around 75 indoors here, according to my thermostat. No humidity, no bugs. If Florida was this way all the time, I'd really love it. As it stands, we'll start to roast in a few months. One of these days I may move a little more north, to get seasons again but not the severity of my Ohio hometown. Time will tell.

Let the Inauguration Festivities Begin
The formal Presidential Inauguration isn't until Tuesday but the celebrating and partying have already begun as Barack Obama makes his way to the white house via his Whistle Stop train tour. I've been watching it on CNN as I work, here at home. My back hurts (back pain acting up) so I won't be attending the local parties here, as it hurts to walk but I'm not letting that bother me. It's just great knowing that Obama will be in office soon, as George Bush slinks off into the sunset with his tail between his legs. It's nice to be home, watching it all on tv instead of freezing over in Washington DC, in cold temperatures and big crowds. Life is good.
Sure, Mr.Obama and Mr.Biden have a huge responsibility on their hands, fixing the huge mistakes of the last eight years. But, if anyone can do it, I'm sure they can. It's quite exciting, and the whole country is electrified as we wait for the swearing in. Washington D.C. is a wonderful place, I've been there numerous times, he will fit in perfectly there, and class it up even more than it already is.

Andrew Wyeth has been an inspiration to me my whole life, he is/was a realistic painter who did beautiful work, usually landscapes and portraits of his wife, Helga. A famous painting of his is called "Christina's World" (below)

The New Year is Here
As for me, I feel good in general, and have done some good things for myself in this new year. I am buying a used but trustworthy car with cargo space to do art shows with. I haven't done any in awhile but now that gas isn't through the roof it's more attractive to do shows and explore new places while doing so. I like going far away, interstate, to meet people of different cities and towns. The car will be paid off in a few months, if not sooner so I am looking forward to being mobile again. I got rid of my other car because it wasn't reliable anymore, good riddance. I think this new year will be a lot more adventurous, and it's nice connecting with customers from time to time through shows, too.
The cats are here at my feet, relaxing. Every now and then they come by to be petted, then go back to sleep again.
Another thing new to life recently is this cell phone of mine. I broke down and got one, and it's nice, but I have to learn all its functions. I have no idea how to text but will figure that out, along with all the other bells and whistles of this thing. It's fun conquering new technology AFTER I've figured it out. Until then, it's just a bit of trial and error. I had a cell phone awhile back but this one is so much more complex, how times change things for the better in the end, though. It's important to keep in with the times, and not get too left behind by modern tech things, since it all evolves so much. So, the cellphone is a welcome addition and will make life much easier..until the next new fangled gadget comes along.
